Oakville Private Cinema & Karaoke

A private cinema and karaoke room with Dolby Atmos 11.2 architecture, Bose AMU208 audio, a 135-inch screen and integrated sound isolation.

Project Background

An Oakville homeowner wanted a dedicated room for movies, music, karaoke and time with family and friends. The brief called for one refined residential environment that could provide both an immersive cinema experience and energetic private entertainment. Avvantage treated the acoustics, finishes and audiovisual systems as parts of the same room design.

The project went beyond fitting equipment into an existing layout. Wall and ceiling sound isolation, custom acoustic treatment, projection, microphones and loudspeakers had to work together while maintaining a clean interior and straightforward everyday operation.

The Challenge

The room sat beside the home’s electrical and utility area. Background noise and vibration from that neighbouring space could interfere with quiet movie scenes. Sound isolation therefore needed to be addressed before the entertainment installation could deliver the intended experience.

Cinema and live karaoke also place different demands on a room. Movie playback benefits from controlled reflections and precise imaging, while karaoke requires clear vocal reproduction, useful output and feedback control. The homeowner additionally wanted to avoid a front wall dominated by visible speakers and equipment.

The Solution

Avvantage incorporated sound isolation into the wall and ceiling construction and integrated custom acoustic treatments into the finished interior. This addressed the room’s behaviour before final system calibration, with panels designed to read as part of the architecture rather than as added technical products.

A 135-inch acoustically transparent fixed-frame screen formed the visual centrepiece. Front-stage loudspeakers were concealed behind it, allowing sound to originate from the image area while keeping the front wall visually clean. Cabling and equipment placement followed the same principle of considered integration.

The room combined Dolby Atmos 11.2 audio architecture with dedicated karaoke processing and professional wireless microphones. Cinema, music and singing were configured as related uses of one entertainment space. Installation and calibration considered projection geometry, speaker placement, subwoofer performance and vocal processing together.
