Large-Scale AV for a Multifunctional Banquet Hall

The Brief

The Chinese Embassy’s cultural centre in Ottawa required an audiovisual setup for its large, multifunctional banquet hall.

AV Vantage installed a large-format projection system and coordinated audio system to support the venue’s varied presentation and entertainment needs. The project focused on delivering a clearly visible image and managing sound across an expansive space.

Large-Format Projection

An Epson professional high-brightness projector was paired with a 300-inch Grandview projection screen, creating a prominent visual focal point for the hall.

The large screen provides a shared viewing surface for presentations and video content, with the projection system selected to suit the scale of the venue.

Audio System

The installation combines two Bose L1 Pro32 array systems as the main speakers with 12 JBL stage speakers.

With multiple speakers operating throughout a large hall, system coordination was an essential part of the setup. Adding speakers alone would not ensure a consistent listening experience; their timing also needed careful attention.

The Challenge: Sound Arrival Times

The hall’s size created a particular acoustic challenge: listeners could receive sound from different speakers at different times.

Where speaker coverage overlaps, these timing differences can produce an audible echo or reduce speech clarity. The installation therefore required adjustment of the speakers as a coordinated system.

Our Approach: Speaker Delay Alignment

AV Vantage used JBL speaker-management software to adjust speaker delay settings, compensating for differences in sound travel time between speaker locations and listening areas.

This work focused on bringing overlapping sound arrivals into closer alignment, helping reduce distracting timing differences and support clearer listening across the hall.

Projection setup, speaker installation and audio timing were addressed together as part of the completed AV installation.

The Result

The completed setup equips the cultural centre’s banquet hall with a 300-inch projection display and a coordinated Bose and JBL audio system.

The project demonstrates the importance of matching equipment to the venue—and configuring it for the space. In a large multifunctional hall, image scale, speaker coverage and sound alignment all contribute to the audience experience.
