Chinese Embassy Ottawa Banquet Hall

Large-format projection and coordinated Bose and JBL audio for a cultural centre banquet hall, including speaker-delay alignment across the space.

Project Background

The Chinese Embassy’s cultural centre in Ottawa required an audiovisual installation for a large, multifunctional banquet hall. The venue needed a shared display and an audio system capable of supporting varied presentations and entertainment uses across an expansive space.

Avvantage installed large-format projection and coordinated audio, with particular attention to the relationship between multiple speakers. The project demonstrates why venue scale affects both what an audience sees and when sound reaches different listening positions.

The Challenge

In a large hall, providing enough equipment is only part of the problem. A display needs an appropriate visual scale, while loudspeaker coverage must work across a much greater area than a small meeting room. Multiple speakers may reach the same listener at different times, especially where their coverage overlaps.

Those timing differences can produce distracting echo or reduce speech clarity. The project therefore needed the speakers to be configured as a coordinated system. Increasing the number of loudspeakers without considering their arrival times would not address the underlying listening challenge.

The Solution

An Epson professional high-brightness projector was paired with a 300-inch Grandview projection screen. This created a large visual focal point for presentations and video content, matching the display arrangement to the scale of the banquet hall.

The audio installation combined two Bose L1 Pro32 array systems as the main speakers with twelve JBL stage speakers. This combination required attention to both coverage and timing. Projection setup and speaker installation were therefore accompanied by system-level audio adjustment.

Avvantage used JBL speaker-management software to adjust delay settings, compensating for differences in sound travel time between speaker positions and listening areas. The aim was to bring overlapping arrivals into closer alignment, reducing distracting timing differences and supporting clearer listening across the hall.

This configuration work is a central part of the case. The equipment establishes the available capabilities, but its relationship to the room determines how those capabilities are experienced. Image scale, speaker position and delay alignment were considered together within the completed installation.

Equipment & Specifications

  • Epson professional high-brightness projector.
  • 300-inch Grandview projection screen.
  • Two Bose L1 Pro32 main array systems.
  • Twelve JBL stage speakers.
  • Speaker-delay adjustment using JBL management software.
  • Projection and coordinated audio for a multifunctional banquet hall.

Project Photography

The existing venue image provides context for the cultural centre project. The documented scope focuses on large-format projection, audio installation and speaker-delay alignment. Exact delay values are room-dependent and are not specified in the public project record.

Project Outcome

The completed banquet hall has a 300-inch shared display and a coordinated Bose and JBL audio installation. Its configuration addresses the practical relationship between a large venue, distributed sound and audience clarity, supporting the hall’s presentation and entertainment needs.
